Here is what the first playable build of the game will look like. Let's call this version 0.1
The playable character (called first dweller) is set and not configurable, so the "Start Game" button in the main menu directly starts a game. Eventually, the first dweller will go through a configuration phase to pick up skills, equipment, perks, etc., but not in 0.1
Only the main playable area exists initially (called "The Place"), there is no outside world (called "The rest of the world" and abbreviated RotW) which means no exploration. All items & resources available will either already be in the Place or spawn throughout the course of the game to make it testable. Ultimately, the RotW will be explorable in an abstracted way : go on an expedition, spend some time, go through random events & encounters, come back to the Place. It would be ideal as the main theme of 0.2
The first dweller has some tools, food, and building materials spread around the Place either on the ground or in crates. There's also a camping site already set up, with a tent, chair, table, and cooking stove. This allows for the fulfilment of two of the basic needs present in 0.1 : eat and sleep.
For the third need (drink), the first dweller will have access to a stream or a well, in order to make it straightforward and test the need without adding too much overhead.
The main activity in 0.1 will be building. The first dweller will have enough building materials & tools to build a small cabin, and more importantly, he will have the needed skills and blueprints: Foundation, Floor, external and internal Wall & Doors, Stairs, Window, Roof. All of those blueprints will be wooden-based (no concrete, metal , or other materials in 0.1) Buildable blueprints could be stretched to include table, chair, and bed.
The building task will be the main one to get to work properly in 0.1. There will be no wear & tear yet, so no maintenance task necessary in this version.
A simple Weather & Day/Night cycle system will be in place, though it will not have a direct impact on gameplay apart from the need for sleep.
The main objective of 0.1 is to get a feel for the RealRealTime feature: all tasks will take a realistic amount of time, through which the player can fast forward automatically, manually, or not at all.
